Once in a while I even make time to enjoy a few hobbies. I love to run, and many of my best memories are from running cross country and track in college. Go Trolls! Another large set of my best memories center around music. I play acoustic guitar and love having jam sessions with friends. I also listen to a lot of indie and alternative music and very frequently have music playing in the background when I'm writing or doing sermon research. I love to read. I read some theology, a lot of Superman comics, and an assortment of other things that catch my attention. I get pretty excited about anything Superman or Lord of the Rings related, and I love watching sports and nature documentaries (think 30 for 30 and Planet Earth). I follow Wisconsin sports, especially the Milwaukee Brewers, quite faithfully. Finally, I love to play cards. I particularly enjoy rummy, hearts, and euchre, and Tess and I have a little collection of games that require special decks.
Really briefly, this blog will mostly be me reflecting on the life of a pastor in the CRC. That obviously varies from congregation to congregation, but hopefully I can provide a little insight into the kinds of things that are on my mind. Once in a while I may detour to discuss another topic such as MLB or the latest Superman and/or DC Comics movie, but most of this stuff will be about being a pastor as well as a husband and father (and perhaps the struggle of balancing those things). My goal is to write about one post a week. While I have no delusions of attracting a huge following, I am grateful for any of you who decide to read along, and I welcome your comments.
Grace and peace,
BMH
Hi Brian Hofman, by reading that you are the pastor in CRC I thought the entire blog will be boring to read because as the in charge of a Christian church you will be going to explain all Christianity. But you represented entire different manner. Even I too like music, watching sports, playing card games etc.,but i don't know what is euchre. Can you explain it how to play that euchre?
ReplyDeleteHello, Bandana Bindhu. Thanks for your comment. I certainly write about Christianity and my work as a pastor sometimes, and I'm sure that my faith shapes how I write about various topics. But my blog also contains posts that deal more with things like baseball and music. I'm glad that you've enjoyed reading. Here's a link that explains the rules of euchre: http://www.euchrelinks.com/rules.html. Hopefully that helps!
